The revenue from the part of the Department

for which I was originally responsible, after having been

practical stationary for the period 1891 to 1900, has in-

-creased about thirty-three fold.

Its proportion to the gross expenditure has

increased from about one-fiftieth to one quarter.

Taking the Department as a whole the

Government receives a reimbursement of $1 for every $3 it spends.

This ratio has not changed in the period under review.
